I learned a valuable lesson about respect, and tampering with role reversal the other day. I was visiting my father who is seventy-seven years old and he is recovering from quadruple bypass heart surgery. As we chatted for a while I noticed that it was 2:30pm. My father has lost a lot of weight since his surgery, so my concern for him eating on a consistent basis is at an all time high, so I decided to ask him if he ate lunch…..
“Dad, did you eat lunch today?
“No, I am just not that hungry right now, but I’ll try again shortly.”
Now it is at this point in our conversation when I should of said, “OK dad, when you are ready to eat again let me know, I’ll make your plate for you.” But instead…..
Me: “It’s 2:30pm already, it will be dinner time soon, you can’t afford to miss a meal!”
“I know, I am just not hungry right now!”
“Really, this is bullshit, I am over here trying to help you get back to good health, and you pull this shit.”
“Alright now, don’t bite off more than you think you can chew!”
“I am calling Stinky!” (sister)
“And what is she going to do?”
