You do not deserve this, our fallen soldiers for racial equality left us a legacy to uphold, a legacy full of faith, courage, passion, understanding, strength, and sacrifice. You speak to me through your acts of heroism, I hear your screams, they do not fall on deaf ears. I will embrace this inherited legacy as if I am the only Black man left, as if I am solely responsible for the advancement of the Black race. Your acts of courage showed me that you have faith in me, that you trust me, that you need me. You have also shown me that I need to stand where you have fallen and continue to fight on. I shed a tear as I write these words, but my tears are not for you, but for us, the lost ones. I would like to thank you for helping me understand what sacrifice consist of, for I now know that sacrifice is the act of giving something up with the expectation of getting something greater in return. You have done your part, and it is now time for me to do mine, for I am sober now. Your sacrifice has expectations and I plan to honor them. Through your acts of courage I now realize that the act of me putting down the worldly substances that rendered me incapable of thinking clearly was not a sacrifice as I once thought, it was a mandatory prerequisite, a thing that is required as a prior condition for something else to happen or exist, such as keeping the dream alive……

“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.”

Jeremiah 29:11

We will continue to strive for a greater day, a day when your expectations are complimented by our sacrifices.

Sacrifices has expectations…..
