I am a cow grazing in the warmth of the world and there is nothing but green pastures as far as my eyes can see. I have servants that feed me endlessly, they wash me, they groom me, and people come from miles around to get a glimpse of me, life is good, real good. I feed unconsciously for the need to fatten up for the long winter that comes, for I shall be tested as the seasons die and are reborn. As I graze with outright gluttony I notice a change in my servants behavior, it is as if they are preparing for something, or should I say, preparing me for something. Then one day without warning I was blindfolded and driven to an undisclosed location, a location with the stench of which I have never known. A strong feeling of uneasiness besieged me, I was being taken from the only life that I have ever known, a life full of wealth, comfort, security, and peace, luxuries that were meant for me, and only me.

That’s the one, that’s the one right there, the healthy one!”

When I heard that I stood tall and proud, shoulders broad, hide glistening and full of color, “They want me! They want me!” Through many years of living in luxury I have heard many stories about moving on, or to a better place with greener pastures.

“You also must be ready, because the son of man will come at an hour when you don’t expect him.”

Luke 12:40

“It will good for those servants whose masters finds them ready, even if he comes in the middle of the night or toward daybreak.”

Luke 12:38

These stories, or should I say fables, they comfort those who do not have greener pastures as far as the eye can see, such as mine. They want, but I have, there is no better place than this, for I have all that I need right here!

“Get him ready, he looks of good stock.”

“Good stock? I am of great stock!”

“Put him in chute number four!”

As they proceeded to insert me into chute number four things began to get a little tight, but there is no fear, for I am going to greener pastures, “MY GREENER PASTURES!” As I waited I heard the rustling of the others and I wondered what greener pastures are they going to, or will we be together? I hope they are separate from me, I do not want to share my greener pastures with anyone!

“I will destine you for the sword, and all of you will fall in the slaughter; for I called but you did not answer, I spoke but you did not listen. You did evil in my sight and chose what displeases me.”

Isaiah 65:12

The slaughter……
